Pretty Tools Work Better

So says New Jersey tumblogger Wilbur Pan, who had this no-longer-cheap engineer’s square hand-engraved by artist Catharine Kennedy:  “Before anyone asks, yes, this square does let me mark lines better after the engraving. I am sure of that.”

And if you like that, you’ll love Ms. Kennedy’s online gallery.  Even (or perhaps especially) in this age of robot engraving and photoetching, old-fashioned hand-engraving is a real treat.  Hand-engraved work has a sculptural quality that is very difficult (or perhaps impossible) to fake.  [via nerdstink]
