Waiting out an unfortunately lengthy shipment, Stockholm area maker Johan von Konow decided to build for his son a working set of augmented reality game pieces for the Cars 2 AppMATes game on his iPad. To achieve a faithful representation of the characters in the game, Johan modified a couple of PEZ dispenser tops approximately the same size and shape as the original game pieces. For his makeshift stand-ins to actually work in the game, Johan then glued surplus conductive foam to some ESD film and attached it to the cars. Making contact with the ESD film activates the capacitive identity of the piece within the game allowing for hours of maximum augmented reality playtime. [Thanks, Johan!]

    Ola! Blog,
This might be off topic, however, If you are looking for the newest technology in Wi-Fi helicopter model flying make sure you check out the Augmented Reality (AR) Drone by Parrot. The drone comes with a manual on board to demonstrate how easy it is to control this 4 rotor helicopter. The manufacturer Parrot, has bridged the gap between virtual and physical worlds, making use of wireless peripherals for smart mobile phones which in turn make use of iPhone and iPad touch-screen technologies. This amazing quadricopter creates its own Wi-Fi network which connects to an iPhone or iPad. Interestingly this quadricopter has two cameras on board allowing you to virtually sit in the pilot seat. One camera is located beneath the quadricopter and is used to calculate the drone speed and also allows for hovering capability. The AR Drone combines military programing with gaming programs allowing for Smart Piloting (PSP) to adjust for wind and other environmental changes. The second camera is situated up front and views the drone’s surround and sends this information back to the iPhone or iPad touch-screen. You see exactly what the drone sees providing for a birds eye view just as if you were sitting inside the quadricopter yourself. This is what AR gaming is all about!
    All the Best

That is a really cool app, is it available to download? Children will love this and it especially good for news film releases, such as for “Cars” as in the clip.
