Cyborg Cabaret Field Trip w/HackPGH

HackPHG members will be taking a field trip on April 27th:

The Cyborg Cabaret explores human, robot, & cyborg relationships in a variety show format featuring everything from cutting edge metal machines to cardboard-suited meat bags. Expect tear-jerking vignettes, frequent non-sequitors, and lots of humor through avant art-meets-science theater.

Our inaugural show will be at the New Hazlett Theater in Pittsburgh, PA on Friday, April 27, 2012! Pre-sale tickets are $8 for students, $12 general admission and $15 VIP. The VIP ticketholders will sit at cabaret tables at the front of the theater, with all other ticketholders in stadium seating.

Open House at Minneapolis’ The Mill

Come check out the Twin Cities’ newest tech shop, the Mill. They’re having an open house tomorrow night, April 25th, from 5 to 8pm.

We’ll have live demonstrations of our equipment, including the 3D printer, laser cutter/etcher, Shopbot, industrial sewing machine, vinyl cutter, and more. Get inspired by the projects made at The Mill by our members.

Help us build a community of makers — artists and entrepreneurs, builders and crafters, women and men, parents and kids by helping us spread the word.

Pixelarium Workshop: 8-Bit Political Text Graphics

Found on the Forskningsavdelningen website:

Are certain kind of aesthetics connected to certain kinds of political issues!? Does it always have to be like that? What if you altered the aestethics connected to the issue? Could you reach new audiences with altered visual styles?

Come and create your own political graphics in 8-bit aesthetics! Learn how to perform visuals using 8-bit pixel graphics and/or text characters (letters, numbers and other symbols). No previous experience is needed.

This workshop will cover for example Ascii, Ansi, PETSCII and Teletext (“Text-TV”). The purpose of the workshop is to find new ways of expression in these unique media environments. Although often misunderstood as limiting and difficult, these tools are often quite helpful to develop new procedures, ideas and motivations. New ideas don’t require new technologies. Sometimes it’s even easier to be progressive with old tools.

The event will be held in Malmö, Sweden, April 28-30.
