alley cat comp Alley Cat is Kinetic Trash Art

There’s a certain irony to Robert Craig’s would-be-trash upcycled artwork “Alley Cat,” made from salvaged wood and even re-used hardware — at least in my neighborhood, stray cats and construction debris go hand in hand. Robert recently submitted this to the Project Remake Contest, a contest calling for projects made from potential landfill. Robert writes:

As you turn the tail, the head tilts to the side as if curious about what’s happening. It’s an alley cat because it is made of 100% found items from the alleys in our neighborhood… What started as a cabinet door and some gnarly, screw and nail ridden wood turned into something as scrappy and resourceful as the alley cat it embodies.

The scratched wood is a nice detail, and shows that even scrap wood can be given another purpose. Five single-extruder MakerBot Replicators are up for grabs in the Project Remake Contest (not to mention an expenses paid trip to NYC for World Maker Faire!). Deadline is next Monday, May 14th, so submit your project today for a chance to win!
