Tablets make great dashboard displays. In this video, Sonic Electronix install a Nexus 7 into a custom fabricated 2008 Dodge Ram dash cradle. While it’s possible to play Angry Birds while cruising down the freeway, the music UI and navigation make this mod more than worth the installation. [via Android News]

  1. I’m working on something like this as well with a rooted Kindle Fire. Another reason I want to do it is becasue of the Bluetooth Dongle you can get for your car diagnostic port and run a whole new set of gauges and tuning apps along side the navigation and music apps. Very nice finish to this guys, it gives me something to shoot for. I dont have the speakers here at work to here the commentary on the video but I’d be interested to know if they some how wired this into the speakers or are just using some sort of FM modulator or Bluetooth. My Fire doesn’t have Bluetooth so I’d have to use the Sync aux port on my truck (I haven’t payed attention if the hardware is even there or if it is my ROM casuing the issue).

  2. Nevermind. I see at the end that they are using the Headphone jack on the tablet. They must have wired it up. Nice job. I am going to wire a splitter into my truck’s aux port so I can neatly wire my kindle with hidden wires and still have my stock aux port accessible.

  3. All it needs now is a wireless backup camera.
