Maker Camp on Google+ is in its final week! Whew―30 days and 30 projects! It’s almost time to break camp, fold up the virtual tents, and roll up the electronic sleeping bags. But not before the final awesome Field Trip Friday! (And like all the Maker Camp Field Trips, this one is going to be epic!)

Join us for the last field trip, tomorrow, August 24, when we visit the Walt Disney Imagineering team in Glendale, CA. Using Google+ Hangouts on Air, we’ll go behind the scenes to see where Disney designers dream up and build the concepts behind new rides for theme parks. We’ll…

  • Visit the Research & Development area where robotics designers create and program the amazing characters you see in Disney Parks.
  • Talk with dimensional designers and sculptors who create scale models of Disney rides, lands, and theme parks, as well as the detailed sculptures that become characters and set pieces within Disney Parks.
  • Check out the pre-visualization department where designers use software to build complete visuals model to “see” what a new ride or theme park might look like before any building ever occurs.
  • Meet some actual ride designers who will discuss how a new ride comes to life, and some of the tools they use in their exploration process.

We’ll also learn how Walt Disney was one of the early advocates of making: building, engineering, designing, and tinkering. Disney wants to inspire teens to study science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) so today’s MAKE campers will be designing the thrilling rides for the theme parks of tomorrow.

Make sure to follow +MAKE on Google+ and join the hangout beginning at 12pm PDT/3pm EDT. See you @MakerCamp for #FieldTripFriday with the Walt Disney Imagineering team!
