Vinay Gupta of the Hexayurt Project held a talk at the Athens (Greece) Hackerspace about DIY Civilization. (Full talk here.)

Hexayurt is an open hardware house built in hundreds every year. We will consider materials supply chain, reuse, grid beam, planning and improvisation, nature, technology and lot of other things.

Also, according to Jay Springett there were 739 Hexayurts at Burning Man 2012!

A popular fallacy of composition is assuming the world economy is a zero-sum-game.
Note too, it is highly improbable one could control regional currency valuation by assassinating political figures.

The idea of a global democracy is inherently flawed, as each region has their own challenges that may conflict with global rational self interests.

You really shouldn’t speak of “free” software and Android in the same lecture. Many parts are open source, but Google is becoming more subtly hostile towards external projects. You need to donate a tax deductible $25 to the Apache group, Debian, or the EFF legal fund.

China can be a brutal place to live, and some people are “hammered” into conformity without due process. I’m not saying you would get your hand cut off by machete wielding robbers over a few hundred dollars, refused emergency care because you can’t afford treatment, and feel a shameful fear over the incident. However, in America you no longer legally have privacy (patriot act), true due process (copyright reform), or any guarantee your government can’t assassinate citizens (people seen in combat zones can be legally shot dead).
Therefore, feeling guilty about 900 million other peoples’ complacency with domestic problems is really none of our business. We have already failed to ensure our domestic rights would be protected, and after the past few years have no credibility left to convince the world otherwise.

3D printing is neat, and you can bet other people are also annoyed you baited them into listening to half-baked political rhetoric.
