Hexapod Meets Hexacopter

I haven’t started my list of New Year resolutions yet, but I’m pretty sure learning to fly a drone quadcopter is going to make the top 10. But after seeing Mad Lab Industries’ exceptionally cool hexapod hexacopter  maybe it makes more sense to walk before I fly. Says Mad Labs:

So, we have been tossing around the idea for a while now of trying to get a Quadcopter to mate with a Hexapod and produce us a mechanical offspring that could walk and fly. So when we came across the opportunity to get a PhantomX Hexapod kit from our friends over at Trossen Robotics we jumped at the chance.

Given the complexity of this project I’ll probably file this one under aspirational, but the walking/flying robotic crab-like creature is a wonder to behold. Check this thing out:

You could use the 6 feet as a grabber to transport objects, and drop it off before you land again.

Hey, thank for posting about our Hexcoter/Hexcopter mashup.

We have posted a second video, this one features a bit more actiopn from the hexapod as far as walking and leg movements. We even use the legs while flying to pick up a water jug.
