Hot Couture at The Crucible

Our friends at nonprofit arts education facility The Crucible are celebrating their 14th anniversary by hosting a sizzling show titled “Hot Couture: A Fusion of Fashion and Fire” next weekend, January 11 and 12, in Oakland, Calif.

From their site:

Ten artist and designer teams will create as many as forty haute couture concepts, illustrating the intersection between fashion, traditional industrial materials, and specialized fabrication.

Samplings of the pieces that will be showcased include a stained glass couture gown, custom corsetry embellished with interactive LED sensors and embedded 3D imagery, and warrior couture with welded steel and embossed leather.

The evening will also include a special performance on a fire-breathing violin by Heather Katz, constructed by Peter Kropf, accompanied by the dynamic aerial artistry of Rose Nisker, as well as demonstrations in welding, blacksmithing, glass blowing, and other fiery arts. The supporting event will be produced in Crucible style, with a focus on industrial elements set to a backdrop of metal and fire.
