DIY Kids Projects: Join MAKE and WGBH for a Special Google+ Hangout on Air

-1

Join me tomorrow, Feb. 6, at 12:30pmPST and 3:30pmEST for a special Google+ hangout on air with WGBH’s “Design Squad Nation” for a demo of several sure-fire DIY experiments for kids.

Design Squad Nation is a PBS KIDS website that promotes the message: You are creative and can solve problems. You can make things that help people. You can dream big. On the site, kids can post real-life solutions to real-world problems and respond to challenges by sketching and building their own prototypes. Viewers are rewarded for their engagement with badges and points, a community-wide leaderboard, and options to play as a team.

The easy to build projects on this hangout are perfect for birthday parties or special classroom projects and include making an air cannon, a two-wheeled balloon car, and an indoor slingshot.

Joining me for the live hangout will be Deysi Melgar, an aspiring actress and dancer who graduated with a degree in physics before recently joining Boston’s WGBH. Also on the show will be Anna Hohos, outreach coordinator at WGBH. Anna supports the educational mission of Design Squad Nation by helping to develop hands-on science and engineering activities, planning nation-wide events, and running professional development workshops that teach adults how to spark a love of STEM subjects in children.

It should be a fun half hour. Tune in right here.

Sounds awesome! I’ll be there! :)

Too bad it’s happening before we get out of work and school, my daughter and I watched DSN religiously when it was hosted by Adam and Judy and we *loved* every minute of it. I really wish they’d make some new TV episodes, seeing the kids involved and a female engineer host made a huge impression on my little one. (Even more than I realized at the time.) We’ll have to watch the recording later in the evening.
