The maker movement will be the subject of a special Google+ Hangout on Air tomorrow, March 28, at noon PST/3pm EST. The hangout will be hosted by White House innovation advisor Tom Kalil and guests will include Dale Dougherty, founder and publisher of MAKE, Tara Tiger Brown of the Los Angeles Makerspace, Super Awesome Sylvia, Saul Griffith, co-founder of  Otherlab; and Venkatesh Prasad of Ford.

According to the White House, President Obama believes we need to give more young people the ability to become makers. At the launch of his Educate To Innovate campaign to improve STEM education the President said, “I want us all to think about new and creative ways to engage young people in science and engineering, whether it’s science festivals, robotics competitions, fairs that encourage young people to create and build and invent—to be makers of things, not just consumers of things.”

The maker movement can also promote innovation in manufacturing, one of President Obama’s top priorities, the White House said.

During the hangout, Kalil and his guests will discuss the elements of an “all hands on deck” effort to promote making. The hangout is part of a series of  White House conversations with administration officials.

Watch the hangout  at WhiteHouse.gov or tune in to the White House’s Google+ page or YouTube channel. You can also join the conversation on Twitter using the hashtag #WHHangout.
