DiResta: Photo Book

In each bi-monthly episode of DiResta (every other Wednesday at 2pm PT), artist and master builder Jimmy DiResta (Dirty Money, Hammered, Against the Grain, Trash for Cash) lets us into his workshop, to look over his shoulder while he builds whatever strikes his fancy. On this episode of DiResta, Jimmy gets all crafty and makes a quick portfolio by cleverly folding up photos of guitars he’s made.–Stett Holbrook

Jimmy’s notes:
Here is an old trick I have been using for many years to make a single page into an eight-page book. Some one showed me this many years ago. Each semester I show the trick to my students and they are always impressed. I often use it to make a quick “leave behind” if I am about to have a meeting. I can tailor the eight pages to the subject of my meeting in just a few minutes using Photoshop. I also can make a quick pocket notebook on the go without the glue and edge trim.

You forgot to mention the bone folder in your tools, and you should use it (and not your fingers!) to make the creases.

This technique is also great for maps. By pasting a map cut and folded in this way onto a card backing board you can read the map in a confined space such as in a car but quickly flip to any part of it. Great for road rallies and treasure hunts. Don’t make the baseboard too stiff so it will fold up in an accident and not injure you.
