Maker Camp Campers Get Busy With Projects

All systems are go here at Maker Camp HQ. We kick off six weeks of projects and fun this Monday, July 8 on Google+. But the lively community of young makers on the G+ Maker Camp community page isn’t waiting until Monday to start making. The number of projects posted to the page grows by the hour. Here are a handful of projects that caught my eye.

• Rachael Thompson made this glove for her first Arduino project. “I timed the space between each note of a Guitar Hero song and programmed the glove to move the user’s fingers in time to the song to improve muscle memory. Third place at school science fair!” Only third place?

• Cazmo C. created this cool looking 285mw 635nm laser project.

• This is James Lundblad’s version of a CoffeeBot, an easy-to-build project from the current issue of MAKE.

• Sam Reynolds build an Arduino-based “do not disburb” sign for his dad. He writes: “For my Father’s Day project, I decided to make a snooze alert for my dad. My dad really enjoys taking a nap after a long day at work and somehow I always end up waking him up by walking in his room. So to solve this problem, I used an Arduino and a LCD screen that displays DO NOT DISTURB, so that he could turn it on to have peace and quiet.”

• There are lots of techie project on the Maker Camp community page, but this drawing from Sam Zeloof stood out. He used a 64-pack of crayons and a black Sharpie to draw this red-headed woodpecker.
