Do you smell something burning? Well, that could just be the project you build once you’ve read MAKE Volume 35: The Danger Issue! It’s all about rockets, flames, and fun, you’ll be lighting the fuse of your own imagination when you dig into this issue.

In MAKE Volume 35, we confront danger within the world of making, and how to be smarter about risk. We examine safe practices for makers, and we look at the illusion of danger vs. real danger, how to use common sense, and how to educate yourself to work more safely and productively.

MAKE_V35_highWe’re bringing plenty of fire, lightning bolts, and rocket’s red glare, too. Guest contributor and celebrated pyromaniac William Gurstelle, author of the best-selling Backyard Ballistics and Whoosh, Boom, Splat, will show us how to make a rocket out of sugar, a tornado out of fire, and a cannon out of dry ice. And Arc Attack member Craig Newswanger shows us how to build the awesome Six-Pack Tesla Coil, made with a beer-bottle capacitor, that’ll throw 15” electrical arcs.

Other fun, and 100% safety-approved projects include:

  • How to make a phonograph out of Lego bricks
  • A light-up hoodie from Electroluminescent (EL) wire
  • An impressive “high-gain” home media projection screen using little more than latex house paint and sandblasting glass

All this, along with the latest developments in maker tech–hardware, software and tools for 3D printing, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, robotics–and much, much more.

I’m a subscriber and love the Make magazine and can’t wait to see it. My problem is I love the printed edition and hate reading it on a computer or iPad. My problem is the magazine is announced at the beginning of th month (in this case, July 9, 2013) but did not get the hard copy until today (July 26 , 2013). Last issue was over 1 1/2 months delay. Is this just me or does the publisher treat all their subscribers this way? Just wondering…?

Jim, thanks for checking in on this issue. We’re taking a look at how we communicate these things. The announcement is just that – announcing what the magazine is about, and giving folks the chance to pre-order the issue or subscribe; sort of like building buzz around a movie release. However, that long a delay between the announcement and the ship could very well be too long, which we will certainly evaluate. Our apologies for the frustration – we’ll work on making this a better experience for you!
