This week Maker Camp is all about DIY music and today we’re going to hangout with sound artist Jesse Seay.  Jesse scours the world for found sounds and creates kinetic sound sculptures from found objects.

Jesse is an assistant professor at Columbia College Chicago. Her work has been shown at the Hyde Park Art Center, the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum, the Chicago Children’s Museum, and is on permanent display at the University of Chicago.makercamp_400

Also on today’s show will be maker Patrick McCarthy, one half of Roth Mobot, a Chicago-based circuit-bending musical duo (with Tommy Stephenson). Their invention of “recursive jazz” controls the random juxtaposition of improvised dark ambient drones, languid melodies, randomly discovered rhythms, percussive accidents, the humorous language of toys, and common discarded electronic devices, in what they refer to as “strategic improvisation.”

Roth Mobot has been performing musical duets on their own Circuit Bent devices and homemade electronics at galleries, theaters, festivals, bars, social events, clubs, and on the radio since 2005.

Want to make some music of your own? Today’s projects will show you how to make a thumb piano and, for something more advanced, a solar xylophone.

Tune in at 11am PST on Google+ and get an earful.
