A new hardware crowdfunding site, Dragon Innovation, first announced a few weeks ago, is now live.

Eight hardware campaigns are already off and running.

The site is backed primarily by Dragon, which is a manufacturing services firm based in Boston, USA and Shenzhen, China. Partners include GE, Qualcomm Atheros, Arrow, and Freescale.

To fund the venture, Dragon recently closed a $2.3 million round of financing led by Flybridge Capital Partners and Foundry Group, with additional backing from The Box GroupLerer Ventures, and Undercurrent Ventures.

Since its founding in 2009, Dragon has helped more than 100 hardware companies navigate the journey from prototype to manufactured product, including MakerBot, Orbotix, Pebble, Romotive, and Sifteo.

Now it looks like Dragon will be helping hardware companies crowdfund new ideas as well. The initial eight campaigners include:

  • Dash Robotics – Dash, an educational robot for the budding engineer, hobbyist, or child looking to explore programmable robots
  • Hammerhead – Hammerhead Navigation, the first social navigation tool for bikes
  • Infinite Corridor Technology – A flexible, twistable, bendable circuit board, LIMBERboard is an Atmel based, microcontroller board embracing open source design for wearable technology
  • Onehundred – Ollie, a perfectly flat, metal multi-purpose tool for quick fixes and projects
  • Rest Devices – Mimo, a wearable sensor for infants to help parents monitor a baby’s health and activity
  • Technical.io – Tessel, an internet-connected microcontroller that is progammable in JavaScript and allows developers to extend the reach of the web to physical objects
  • Weartrons – The Run-n-Read enables reading with ease while on a treadmill, or riding in a moving vehicle
