Eric Hagan is a prolific kinetic sculptor and a current adjunct professor at NYU’s ITP. He has produced many works that often involve gears and motors, his piece Cycle was featured at Maker Faire NY last year, and he has been a guest blogger for us on maintaining a high volume shop.

I took some time to talk to Eric about his most recent work ahead of this year’s Maker Faire NY. He will be giving a presentation on the finer points of building Kinetic sculptures, as well as showing his piece “Refined”, which is a kinetic model of a sugar factory made completely from sugar. Yes, he has even casted his own gears made from sugar! If you’ll be at the Faire this year, I recommend checking out his work.
