Here at MAKE, we are busy putting the final touches on our next special issue, the second annual “Ultimate Guide to 3D Printing.” While that issue is devoted to the growing market of home 3D printers, we ventured out to see the other side of the market.
John Vegher, owner of San Francisco-based Moddler, let us ogle all the amazing pieces he prints out for toy companies, industrial design companies and architects. My personal favorites are the props he has done for Hollywood, specifically Loki’s staff in the “Avengers” movie, and the “Men In Black 3” guns. It’s no surprise that Vegher is able to work on blockbuster movies; he is a vfx veteran and Emmy winner, and one of the founding members of Giant Killer Robots and Pixel Liberation Front.
Check out our slideshow of the Moddler visit and let me know what you think of the interview!

I wish I could own an objet eden as well… I’ve worked with ’em at the TU Vienna and they’re awesome! Especially the connex series which can print with up to 9 different materials on the same project. I’m looking forward when the patents of dlp printing fall out of the hands of 3D systems so hq photopolymer printers will be much cheaper…
Awesome company!
