MAKE’s 3D Printing Lab to be Recreated for Engadget Expand This Weekend

At Engadget Expand this weekend, the MAKE crew will be reproducing the test environment we created to put 23 printers through their paces for our soon-to-be released Ultimate Guide to 3D Printing. The special issue will be unveiled at the event. We’ll have five printers on hand (Printrbot Simple, Ultimaker 2, Replicator 2, Up Plus 2, Felix 2.0) and a team of testers including MAKE’s digital fabrication editor Anna Kaziunas France.3D-Printing

Here’s how we went about testing our printers for MAKE’s Ultimate Guide to 3D Printing special issue.

Fred “The Great Fredini” Kahl, whose 3D scanning booth is featured in the special issue, will allow attendees to scan themselves and make 3D printable  “action figures.” Fred was at World Maker Faire New York  in September and was a huge hit with attendees. We’ll also feature the “how-to” project build of his scanning rig.

And that’s not all. We’ll host a drawing for a Printrbot Simple that attendees can enter at the booth.

So if you’re neighborhood come on down. All the details are here.
