Maker Interviews

NASA Chief Technologist Mason Peck

One of the most fascinating (to me) aspects of the Maker Pro movement are the expatriates who have moved closer to the manufacturing zones. Take bunnie Huang of chibitronics, which is based in Singapore. Bunnie gave a talk on the Make: Live stage at Maker Faire New York 2013, where he described his experience with finding factories in Shenzhen to manufacture products he developed.

I was fascinated by Bunnie’s description of forming relationships with factories. He came to realize that more important than merely finding a factory willing or able to manufacture the parts you want is to ensure it’s a good fit. Getting the “F” team at Foxconn is far worse of an experience than the “A” team at a small factory.
