Dexter Industries, maker of the BrickPi shield for the Raspberry Pi, put the shield to the test in this sweet Kindle-reading robot that uses a camera to take a picture of each page. Next, the Pi converts the image to text and reads it aloud. Finally, a Mindstorms motor touches a capacitive stylus onto the Kindle’s “next page” button and the process continues.

Dexter has a complete writeup of the project, including links to the applications they’re using for OCR and text-to-speech. One of the coolest details was their DIY capacitive stylus, built with anti-static foam, a 47 nF cap and a wire leading to the BrickPi’s ground pin.
