Denver’s First Maker Faire Shows Colorado’s Unique Character

Every Mini Maker Faire has its own community character. The first Maker Faire to launch in Denver is coming, and the makers are pure Colorado!

As home to 26 federal labs, Colorado has a deep pool of scientists and engineers.  NIST, the National Institute for Standards and Technology, will be bringing cryogenic experiments in superconductivity.

Loveland, Colorado is the country’s leading city in sculpture fabrication and will contribute to the Denver Mini Maker Faire the Sculpture Games, the ultimate sculpture challenge where teams have just a day and a half to create fine art sculptures out of found objects.

With a large aerospace community, it’s no wonder that we will have an array of rockets — including propulsion exhibits from Denver’s Museum of Nature and Science.

And an array of inventors, creators, and entrepreneurs will be on hand showing off their creations, from a human-powered ferris wheel to a Sound Puddle light and sound experience. Here are a few more makers coming to the Denver Mini Maker Faire, to be held May 3 and 4 at the National Western Complex in Denver.

Geekify is planning an exciting repertoire of ferrofluid fun, musical tesla coils, 3D-printed gizmos, and custom-made geeky products.

3D Zoetrope will demonstrate their mechanical device creating the illusion of moving pictures — expected to be a dark-room favorite.

The ever-so-secret Denver Mad Scientists will be exhibiting some of their “top secret” contraptions to the wondering public.

Colorado makerspaces will be out in full force: TinkerMill, Club Workshop, Loveland CreatorSpace, and the Colorado Springs 3D Printing Club will be showcasing their diverse members with a variety of exhibits.

“The great thing about the NoCo and Denver Mini Maker Faire is that we leverage collaborations created during the Faire all year round.  We support the growth of makerspaces, youth robotics program, and more through the Colorado Maker Hub.”
—Elise VanDyne, Executive Director of the nonprofit Making Progress, producers of the NoCo and Denver Mini Maker Faires as well as the Colorado Maker Hub. The CoMakerHub is a maker resource that promotes and connects makers throughout the Rocky Mountains throughout the year.

The Denver Mini Maker Faire is sponsored by Maker Media, SparkFun, and Epilog Laser.
