Making stuff with SplatForm at the Edinburgh mini Maker Faire

Edinburgh Mini Maker Faire BannerThis post is coming to you live from the Edinburgh Mini Maker Faire—returning to Edinburgh for the second time—being held at the Summerhall here this weekend as part of the Edinburgh International Science Festival.

SplatForm

One of the stands getting a lot of attention at the Edinburgh Mini Maker Faire was SplatForm. It started out as construction system for organic forms for designers and architects, but has ended up as a fast selling toy for five year olds.

Launched earlier in the month at the Gadget Show Live—where it promptly sold out—the free-form toy was seriously popular amongst younger makers here in Edinburgh. I talked to Evan Lind—the inventor of SplatForm—about it, and what it’s actually supposed to be for, and how he came up with the idea in the first place.
