Roll up, roll up for the Edinburgh mini Maker Faire

Edinburgh Mini Maker Faire BannerThis post is coming to you live from the Edinburgh Mini Maker Faire—returning to Edinburgh for the second time—being held at the Summerhall here this weekend as part of the Edinburgh International Science Festival.

Back for a second year the Edinburgh mini-Maker Faire is bigger and brighter than ever, and I’ll be reporting live from the faire all day here at the Summerhall in Edinburgh.

Highlights from last year’s Edinburgh Mini Maker Faire.

Closing out the Edinburgh Science Festival—one of Europe’s largest science festivals—which has been running all through April, the mini Maker Faire opened its doors here at the Summerhall at 10am this morning with 70 makers, workshops, and drop-in activities. Exhibits here at the Summerhall include a life-size WALL-E robot built in a garage, a ‘tweet-able’ flame-thrower, a giant Tesla Coil, and the world’s first Pedal powered hydraulic hybrid Reliant Robin pickup.

Along with the Maker Faire, many of Summerhall’s permanent residents are still open for business, from the official festival brewer Barney’s Beer who brew their beer on the site of the original 1800s Summerhall brewery, to the Edinburgh Hacklab who call the Summerhall home, and are happy to welcome faire attendees.

The faire will be open until 5pm this evening, so if you’re in Edinburgh come along.

Next year the Edinburgh Mini Maker Faire—along with the other maker events in the UK—will be joined by a full scale Faire. Our third flag ship faire will accompany the Bay Area and New York Maker Faires as one of our largest events, and will be held in east London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park at the Here East complex.
