You’re likely already familiar with the concept of a 3D printing pen. The most famous is the 3Doodler, which is the extruder from a 3D printer made handheld, or like a high precision hot glue gun that uses the same filament as a typical 3d printer. The 3Doodler has been out for a while now, and we’ve started to see some pretty neat things created with it. The CreoPop is to the 3Doodler what UV resin based 3D printers are to plastic filament 3D printers. Instead of melting and extruding bits of plastic, the CreoPop excretes some resin which is then cured by UV light. This means no hot parts to cause painful burns.

20140615233107-top_heroBanner1CreoPop has an interesting line up of materials available for use with their pen. The “inks” come in cartridges that can be swapped out, and come in the following varieties:

  • Glittering
  • Glow in the dark
  • standard (different colors)
  • Temperature sensitive
  • Aromatic
  • Body Paint
  • Magnetic
  • Elastic
  • Conductive

They’ve launched an indiegogo campaign with a target of $40,000 which they have already surpassed. They have 28 days left and we’re all curious here at Make to see what kind of interesting things start happening once these get into the hands of makers.

So, you’re telling me that using a soldering iron or a hot glue gun is also incredibly dangerous? Where is my UV iron then?

Don’t market your cool idea as a solution to problems that doesn’t exist.

    1. Roger Perf says:

You are obviously ignorant about the fumes that the current 3d pens and 3d printer hot end nozzle emits.

  2. Brian Dickey says:

It’s pretty cool, but I wonder if heavy use could lead to cataracts. Would probably be a good idea to wear sun glasses while using.

  3. David Mc says:

    Looks like fun!
I wonder what the cost to use is?
The plastic I print with is low cost.
Hours of fun shouldn’t break your bank.
