3 Awesome Projects You Can Do With The New LittleBits CloudBit Module

cloud_1hr_croppedAfter the announcement of the LittleBits CloudBit module earlier today, you may find yourself wondering “what the heck would I use that for?”

Really, the possibilities are endless, but LittleBits has put together a few projects to show some great examples of what could be achieved quickly and easily.

Insta-Ego Head

Lets just admit it. We’re all at least a tiny bit ego driven. We just can’t help feeling a tiny bit of our ego inflating as we see other people talk about us. It is human nature. This project takes the concept in a quite literal direction. A balloon “ego” gets inflated any time someone hashtags you on instagram. You can literally sit back and watch your ego inflate!

Step-by step instructions for the Insta-Ego head.

Remote Pet Feeder

If you’re anything like me, you’ve got pets that have a tendency to over eat. Mine are pugs and fish. I don’t really trust others to maintain these creatures strict dietary limitations while I’m gone, they’re just too good at begging. Being able to pre-portion their food and feed them myself, from the road, would be wonderful. That is exactly what this project is. The cloudBit module allows you to send the command to deliver the food to your adorable pets.

Step by step instructions for the Remote Pet Feeder.

SMS Doorbell

Gardening, mowing the lawn, swimming in the pool, or even taking a quick walk around the block can end up with you missing important packages at your doorstep. Using the CloudBit module, you can get an SMS message on your phone when someone pushes the doorbell.

Step by step instructions for the SMS Doorbell.

We would love to hear more ideas of what you think you could build with the module in the comments!

    Absolutely revolutionary.

Horrible kit! I got the cloudbit starter – no instructions, no tutorials, broad prjects on the website that are poorly explained. Dead-ends when trying spot connect to their cloud. Wouldn’t work with iPhone, iPad. And they keep trying to get you to buy more bits when looking for support on their horrible website. All around bad experience for learners.

Agreed. This is a terrible kit for new users to cloud computing. I have absolutely no idea what I’m supposed to do with this.
