Project: Personalized Paper Wine Glass Charms

Throwing a dinner party this holiday season and need a quick and easy way to personalize your place settings? These paper wine glass charms are a cinch to put together if you have the right tools. My collection of paper punches has steadily grown since I started getting into paper crafting a few years back, and, in this tutorial, you will see why it can certainly be handy to own circle punches in every size! But, if you don’t have punches on hand, this craft can also be replicated with a paper cutting machine like the Silhouette or Cricut, or by hand with scissors, though the latter will take longer to do.

Paper wine glass charms would also make a great last minute gift for anyone who likes to entertain in their home!

MATERIALS

Card stock paper, assorted patterns and plain white (or another light color)
Paper Punches, I used 2½”, 2″ and a ⅝” circles.
Special shape punches, these are optional, but are really nice to use for decoration (I used a snowflake, branch, and flower petals)
Glue Stick
Scissors

DIRECTIONS

 Step 1: Punch a 2½” circle (largest) from the patterned card stock.

Step 2: Punch a 2″ circle from the white paper.

Step 3: Glue the white circle on top of the patterned circle.

Step 4: Punch through both layers using the ⅝” circle punch. (This size hole fits nicely around the stem of my large wine goblets.)

Be sure this last hole is not too close to the outer edge. This is actually as far as my punch will reach into the center.

Step 5: Use your scissors to snip a straight line from the outside circle to the center of the smallest hole. This will allow you to flex the paper and fit the charm around your glass stem.

Step 6: Create some additional decor to liven up your charms and glue them down. I love this branch punch—it’s perfect for Christmas!

Step 7: Use a thin felt-tipped marker to add your name, or your guests’ names if you are doing a formal table setting.

Play around with colors and patterns, and even add some stick on gems for that extra bling factor. I think you will have a lot of fun! This is also great way to use up those paper scraps you’ve been saving.
