How To: Cast Your Own Body Double Dress Form

As a petite girl with frustrating measurements, I’ve never managed to find a dress form that could really cover all the bases—mine wears a padded bra/underpants with a padded-backside combination to make it work, but that’s not always ideal, especially when draping heavier fabrics. And so, about once a year, I briefly consider making my own custom dress form, and then I get daunted by the effort/planning/mess required, and put it out of my mind. But, this may be the year, my friends! Irena Tsibulka from Couture Stories, who is now officially my crafty hero, has cast her own body double dress form, and she’s shared a detailed tutorial of the process, so now you (and I) can make one too.

Casting your own dress form is a lot of work, but it’s a much sturdier and more accurate option than other DIY methods like using duct tape.

I don’t know about you, but I can’t stop thinking about how awesome it would be to fit a muslin on my dress form and know for sure that it will fit the same way on my own body. It would save so much time and so many headaches!
