How-To: Oversized Cross Stitch Canvas Art

original (1)

The art of oversized cross stitch has been gaining popularity over the last few years. We’ve seen it stitched up and even painted onto pegboards because it provides an perfect grid of evenly spaced holes. If you’re not a fan of the peg board look, but are still into stitching something large, this project from Amy Anderson on the HP Create blog, uses a ready made canvas as the base for stitching this famous song title from The Beatles.

I have to say this is quite smart. I made an oversized cross stitch project using a big piece of loose material and an embroidery hoop to stitch it. When it came time to stretch it over the wooden frame, it was very  difficult to make sure everything looked square and evenly spaced. So by using a pre-made canvas, you can skip all that trouble. Added bonus, you can paint the canvas any color you’d like!

The one thing to note is that the canvas material still has the ability to be stretched accidentally, so do not put any uneven pressure on the canvas as you are working on it.
