When Michael Kearney was tasked with creating an impressive display for Guerrilla Science, he settled on one of the most wonderful combinations possible: fire and music.

He took the basic principle of a Rubens’ tube and multiplied it, because more fire is always better! If you’ve never seen a Rubens’ tube in action, it can be difficult to imagine. The sound waves cause the fire to undulate and pulse in ways that allow you to visualize the waveform of the note. The Rubens’ organ is a series of Rubens’ tubes, played by different sections of the keyboard, all flaming only inches from your face.
