Make a Chair That’s Also a Bookshelf

bookshelf chair

No matter where you turn in this bookshelf chair, you’ll always have a book at hand. This amazing piece of furniture was created by Darko Kavazovic. He saw a similar chair on houzz.com that cost $5,000, but decided it would be a great project to make himself and he could do it for just a fraction of the cost.

He posted his directions on Instructables and they are pretty straightforward. All you really need to get going on this project is wood and screws (and, of course, the necessary woodworking tools). Kavazovic couldn’t tell what the size was of the one he found online, so he decided to make one that could fit through a normal door. This came out to 41.5″×34.5″×29″. He finished off the piece by painting it a beautiful blue. Then, his mother-in-law sewed up a cushion that looks perfect for it.

Having a bookshelf is great, but sometimes you just don’t have the room, and this chair is a great alternative for those who want storage and a place to sit all in one spot. Overall, the piece of furniture can hold about 18 feet of books. With all that room, you can even put other fun knickknacks around it as well.

This is Kavazovic’s first Instructable, but this bookshelf chair is not his first project. He’s shared other fun things he’s done on his website, including a bench and an overhaul he did of his master closet. It will be fun to see what interesting project he comes up with next.
