Woodworking : Furniture Making

Hannah Wides oversees the wood-, metal-, and sewing shops at Open Works, a non-profit Maker Space in Baltimore City. She volunteers at the neighboring community wood shop and tool lending library, Station North Tool Library as a woodworking educator, shop monitor, and “librarian”. Hannah received a BFA from Cooper Union and studied woodcarving at its sister school in Japan, Kyoto Seika University. She has a certificate in woodworking and furniture design from Yestermorrow Design/Build School in Vermont. Her work history includes sculpting, timber framing, woodworking education and consulting, and freelance furniture making. Together with her creative mentor and business partner Breon Gilleran, she runs Metis Collective, a custom furniture making studio. Hannah is also the co-founder of Baltimore Women’s Maker Collective, a social network and general resource for woman-identifying and nonbinary creative entrepreneurs and artists. She recently received a grant to organize XXChange, a month long multi-layered showcase of woman-identifying makers and artists, opening in November.
