Recover files from a flash memory card

Phil – The other day my sd card failed on my digital camera. After buying a new camera and card to replace my beater and the dead card, I decided to try to recover about three weeks of pictures from the card. After a little searching I found this great utility from cgsecurity.org It is a free, open source, file recovery application for flash memory. First it recovered all the files from my card. When I verified that they were saved onto the hard drive, the next day I used the utility to repair the FAT boot sector. I am so psyched that I recovered the files, and now I have a spare 2 gig card after replacing it with a 4 gig SD. I would definitely use this software again. I will try to remember to offload from the card more often….

What a coincidence! Recently I was helping a friend recover a crashed Windows 2000 hard drive. After we tried several commercial programs and failed, we gave up hope and formatted the drive. Then, I just happened across PhotoRec by chance and tried it on the formatted drive! We were able to recover all of his lost photos. A great utility in my book.

Great program. Quickly recovered all of the photos from a memory card that collapsed during transfer.

If you have problems with your memory card in 80% of all cases the controller of your card is damaged and no software or card reader can help. You must separate the memory chip and dump the raw data to recover your data, look here: http://card-recovery.biz/us/service.php

I purchased this memory card for my girlfriend for Christmas, since the biggest memory card she had was 64 MB (I know, it’s a damn shame…). We popped it into her Canon Powershot SD 750 and it worked flawlessly. Lots of room for high-res pictures, video, and anything else you want to put on it. I fully recommend this product to anyone who uses alot of space on their memory cards quickly: it will be well worth the money. Be forewarned, however: this memory card only works in HC-compatible devices, so older digital cameras may not pick it up. You might want to check with the company that developed your camera first to see if it will work.
