Film animals in the wild without being there

This hack shows how to turn a Sony video camera into a motion detector to track animals in the wild and would then begin to record when it saw something moving. Although this feature is sometimes already built into video cameras, this maker decided to create her own using a simple relay circuit to control the power on the camera and the record button to trigger the filming. We also like the ghetto case that this thing resides in.

There are people who steal or vandalize them for various reasons. They either think it’s being used by hunters, want it to play with or want it to sell. Make it quiet and do a good job at camouflaging it even if you fully control the land. Setting up two to catch vandals is always fun.

In some areas it is illegal to put those out and you can get in trouble with law enforcement even if it’s not on public land, you should contact your department of natural resources to find out when and where they can be used.
