Solve a Rubik’s Cube with Blender

Craft & Design Fun & Games

Youtube user Petitblenderman has a great video of a Rubik’s Cube solved in a Blender animation.

Danny says this looks reasonably solid. You may remember Danny’s laser cut tactile cube post by Collin.

Looks pretty legit to me. The cube’s colors are all in the right place, although I was a little confused at about :27 where in the middle of the solution, the cube seems to be scrambled only by half turns (180 degree turns on a face). The rest of the solution is in half turns, which is unusual. It looks good though!

That solution doesn’t follow any pattern I’m familiar with, though more experienced cubers might see something I’ve missed. I suspect that what we’re seeing in this video is really just a scramble of a cube played in reverse.

I agree with Michael, it doesn’t seem to be following any solution pattern I know of, not even the more esoteric ones like corners or edges first.

This does seem to be done via the common special effects trick of undoing something, and then playing it in reverse.

Whoops, I really messed up my OpenID login. That should fix it.

Okay, but it’s been done before…
