Phillip’s science, tech, DIY, making and more podcast playlist…

Pt 2449
Looking for some good podcasts? Here are my picks! I try and listen or watch about an hour of science programming a day, it’s usually on a treadmill or pedaling a bike or if I am in a “hostage situation” like traveling. It’s a way to pass the time while keeping active or while just waiting in line for something.

A few posts ago I mentioned I listened to a lot of sci/tech, etc and some commenters were interested in my playlist. So…. This is the list for the week, I try new ones out all the time, add them, remove them – if you have suggestions post them up in the comments! I’m always interested in discovering new ones. On a related note, during the holidays I spent about 14 hours a day shipping open source hardware, for those long runs of time I listened to audio books – that’s not the list I’m posting here, but perhaps I will later if there’s interest in that list too.

Each item after the jump has a show URL, RSS (XML) feed and an iTunes URL, with the second URL you can drag it directly in to iTunes or use the 3rd link, the iTunes link. Read on for the full list!

Roughly bi-weekly radio program from WNYC. Topics are relentlessly interesting science/math investigations. I highly recommend Stochasticity, Numbers, and Parasites from the archives.

I wanted to comment just to mention RadioLab, and I’m glad someone else got there first.

It’s a shame they only do limited-run seasons, because it’s one of the most well-produced shows on NPR (and as a big NPR listener, that’s saying a lot). Their use of editing, sound effects, music, and assorted tricks makes for some of the most listenable science programming out there.

  2. Robert Woodhead says:

I can’t believe you didn’t include “The Skeptic’s Guide to the Universe” on your list. It’s stuffed full of science news (with 100% of the RDA of skepticism), and absolutely hilarious.

It’s the best podcast I’ve ever listened to by a wide margin.

  3. Phillip Torrone says:

@robert – good one! i’ve listen to “The Skeptic’s Guide to the Universe” many times :) – it’s just not on my list at the moment, this isn’t a “best of” guide, just what’s actually on my device this week.

  5. Doubi says:

Thanks for this Phillip! Will have to sample and settle on a couple of favourites I think, sadly I don’t have enough commuting time in the week.

  6. Kevin Reid says:

I have to recommend something I listed to often, Spark

Good info and Dave, the host, is great.

  9. reillybeacom.id.au says:

The Science Show is very good. More intellectual and general and less news-of-the-week.
