Joel Cooper’s amazing origami masks plus grid tutorial

Believe it or not, Delphus, the mask pictured above, is folded from one solitary sheet of elephant hide paper (don’t worry, no elephants were harmed or used). Delphus is just one of Joel Cooper’s incredible origami creations. Check out more of his work on his Maker’s Market page, which includes a tutorial on making a grid, the foundation for making mind-blowing paper tessellations. You can also see more of his work on his Flickr stream. Below is Alberich, also meticulously folded from one single, uncut piece of paper. Stunning.

I'm a word nerd who loves to geek out on how emerging technology affects the lexicon. I was an editor on the first 40 volumes of MAKE, and I love shining light on the incredible makers in our community. In particular, covering art is my passion — after all, art is the first thing most of us ever made. When not fawning over perfect word choices, I can be found on the nearest mountain, looking for untouched powder fields and ideal alpine lakes.
