I’d done a conversion to my mountain bike a year and a half ago via a kit from AmpedBikes.com. It was a fun project, and while I haven’t ridden it as much as expected (due to a lack of quality bike lanes between my house and work), I definitely would do it again.

Two car batteries running through an inverter power a corded drill to drive the chain. Complete with beer cooler! A great example of Rube Goldberg / apocolyptic engineering using what’s on hand.
