FAQ
Q. There is a lot of importance placed upon gauge in knitting projects. What is the gauge of this project?
A. The gauge is 4 sts per 4 inches or 1 st per inch, but you can loosen your gauge toward the top of the boot to force the slouch effect more.
Q. What if I choose a shoe with a heel NOT made of plastic or wood?
A. Then you have the opportunity to knit a heel cover. This is a purely "sculptural" intuitive venture to knit a piece which will glue onto the heel. I like to use a dry cleanable, not heat-setting, glue like a jewel glue to attach the heel cover. Also, it is helpful to make a slip stitch turning ridge where the knitted piece will round around the inner part of the heel.
Q. What if some parts of my shoes are too fragile or flimsy to use a drill on?
A. You can use a razor knife like an X-Acto blade to make starburst incisions in the shoe instead of drilling the holes.
Q. What if I hate my shoes after I knit them?
A. If you can determine what it is about them you do not like and feel like you would knit them differently if you had to do it all again, then please rip out and start over. The most time-consuming part of making the shoes is the marking and drilling; the knitting is fairly fast.
Q. What if I can't knit and I only crochet?
A. These shoes can be crocheted using many of the same concepts included in this pattern.
