I have been interested in this topic for decades! Currently I am using Illustrator and learning to use a plug in from Artlandia called Symmetry Works for Illustrator and Symmetry Shop for Photoshop. I have been doing radial repeats for the last year - see http://www.flickr.com/photos/drwalls/sets/72157605830342261/ which I call Digital Collage-Kaleidoscopic.
