As I continue to work on the decor of my home (I like to think of it as a constant work in progress, ahem), it’s been inspiring to read Meg Mateo Ilasco’s new book, Crafting a Meaningful Home: 27 DIY Projects to Tell Stories, Hold Memories, and Celebrate Family Heritage. We’re happy to be today’s blog tour for this fantastic book. Not just a typical craft book, Meg shares stories from individuals and couples (as well as herself) who have made something for their home to make it special and unique, sometimes relating to family or heritage. Some of the featured crafters include Lisa Congdon (pictured below) and her Decoupaged Plates dedicated to her sister and mother, Cathy Callahan and her Vintage Fabric Display which shows off her mom’s vintage fabrics, and Lauren Smith and Derek Fagerstrom’s Memory Wall which showcases the story of their courtship and marriage. All the projects are amazing and the personal stories make it all even more inspiring.

It was a special treat for me to see artist Samantha Hahn in this book (she makes a Family Banner) since she help make my home special with her artwork. A few years ago, my long hallway wall looked bare and one piece of art just wouldn’t work. I worked with Samantha to create three pieces of art that represented my Chinese heritage, my husband’s French hertigate, and our life in San Francisco together. Today I love that I have a special watercolor trio that is unique to our family that shows my grandmother in Shanghai from the 40’s, an Eiffel Tower scene that looks like a vintage postage stamp, and a map of the waterfront of San Francisco near where we live.
Memories of home are important and Meg’s book Crafting a Meaningful Home brings it all together – inspiring stories to read along with DIY projects for home. This is a perfect book to give this holiday season as a gift or stocking stuffer!
