Checkin’ In: The Leethally Crafty Lee Meredith

Hold onto your knitting needles, because we’re checkin in with super crafter Lee Meredith today and the girl has been beyond busy! But first off, let’s take a look at what Lee contributed to the pages of CRAFT.

Back in Volume 06, Lee showed us how to recycle old vinyl records into bowls (above), mail sorters, and clocks. She also taught us how to recycle album cover art into CD cases and custom notebook covers (below).

Then, in Volume 10, Lee walked us through making 3 different kinds of fingerless mitts: No-Sew Sock Mitts, Multi-Sock Mitts, and Knit Gradient Mitts:

So when I asked Lee what she’s been up to these days, she wrote (I added pictures and pointers throughout):
“I have my blog, do stuff!, where I post crafty stuff, as well as other things I’m doing, along with some patterns and tutorials.”

“I’ve been designing a lot of knitting patterns lately, including my newest, Skoodlet [pictured at top of post], my Flared Hat with 100% of proceeds going to a youth homeless organization here in Portland (Outside In), and my most recent free pattern, the Waving Chevron Scarf [pictured above]. I also just had a free pattern [of the hat below] published in knitty.com.”

“Along with my fiance, Pete, I recently developed and released a game, Bad Movie Bingo, in the form of a downloadable PDF, which you print out to make the bingo cards, DIY-style!
I am a contributor to craftstylish.com, with project tutorials going up once a week, such as experimental sleeve-dyed yarn [shown below] and 3-shade freezer paper stenciling.”

“I’m also a blogger for threadbanger.com, with a weekly DIY roundup going up every Friday, like my recent 3-part series (1, 2, 3) of free knit+crochet hat patterns.
I have my online shop where I sell things I make from recycled materials, although I’ve been taking a break from making new things since the crazy holiday season ended! Same goes for hand-spun and hand-dyed yarn. I’ve been spinning and dyeing a little bit for fun, and hope to get back into that more later in the year.”

“I’m always playing around with photography on the side, and I have an Etsy shop where I sell my photos. I’ve also been experimenting with some stop-motion video-making lately, and I hope to have some just-for-fun videos worthy of sharing on my blog soon!
I’ve been busy!!
I was sad to learn about the end of printed Craft, but I’m super excited about the future of the blog/website!”
Thanks, Lee! And if you don’t already have them, you can pick up copies of CRAFT Volume 06 and CRAFT Volume 10 in the Maker Shed!

I'm a word nerd who loves to geek out on how emerging technology affects the lexicon. I was an editor on the first 40 volumes of MAKE, and I love shining light on the incredible makers in our community. In particular, covering art is my passion — after all, art is the first thing most of us ever made. When not fawning over perfect word choices, I can be found on the nearest mountain, looking for untouched powder fields and ideal alpine lakes.
