Tunisian crochet—also known as afghan crochet—has been popping up all over the crafting community lately, any I’ve been dying to give it a go. So, when Simplicity provided the Boye Artisan Tools CrochetMaster Plus Crochet Hook Set for me to try out, I couldn’t wait to take the hooks for a spin through my fiber collection.

The Boye Artisan Tools CrochetMaster Plus Crochet Hook Set is a 30 piece set with a carrying case that includes crochet hooks in sizes F to Q (3.75mm-15mm). As you can see, the hooks are absolutely gorgeous, with nickel-plated handles and natural wood heads. The set also contains two 3", two 5", one 9", one 12", and one 18" flexible cables, plus two joins for additional length options, stoppers to keep your stitches on the cables, and two wooden caps to transform the hooks from Tunisian crochet hooks into traditional crochet hooks. To keep everything in place while you work, the kit also includes two keys to assist in tightening cables, caps, and stoppers.

When used as Tunisian crochet hooks, the cable joins and transitions between the wood and metal were very smooth to the touch and didn’t snag yarn or slow my stitching. When I used the keys to tighten everything in place, the cables and stoppers were extremely sturdy and reliable, and I never felt worried that they might disconnect while I worked. The hooks also had a nice weight and shape, and didn’t cause fatigue or discomfort when I was using them.

This next part is my favorite:

In addition to using the hooks for Tunisian crochet, this set also includes two wooden caps that screw into the ends of each hook so they can be used as traditional crochet hooks. This is especially great because the set comes with such a wide range of hook sizes—no matter what technique you’re using, one purchase can cover the majority of your crochet needs.

Plus, I really dig how sleek and stylish the hooks look with the caps in place. Don’t you?

I enjoyed using the Boye Artisan Tools CrochetMaster Plus Crochet Hook Set, and am excited to have it in my crochet tool arsenal. Overall, I found the set to be versatile, reliable, and high quality. While, with a retail price of $149.99, this set certainly isn’t for dabblers or absolute beginners, I’d definitely recommend it to experienced crocheters who are looking to branch out to new techniques and multi-technique crafters who are looking to consolidate tools without sacrificing quality.

This does appear to be an attractive set, but the cost seems overly expensive. I very much like my Denise set, which cost one-third as much.
