Fred Rogers had the remarkable ability to communicate with children in a way that was simultaneously respectful and entertaining. This lovely little 1967 documentary shows him working on his TV show, Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. My favorite scenes are where he interacts with children. He really was able to speak on their level, and at the same time elevate the conversation to a place where he could help, explain, and comfort. What a great man he was!

In Pittsburgh, where he spent much of his adult life, a Mister Rogers statue was installed in 2009. Then in 2011, yarn artist Alicia Kachmar lovingly yarnbombed the statue with a cheerful crocheted red cardigan. I think it suits him! And the true-to-history zipper-front detail was a nice touch.
