Lion Brand Yarn

Welcome to our first CRAFT Crochet-Along! This month, we hope you’ll join the fun as we learn to make this Fuzzy Panda Amigurumi from our friend Tamie Snow of Roxycraft. As you know, Tamie is also the author of Tiny Yarn Animals and created this Fuzzy Panda pattern just for us.
The first lesson with Tamie starts in exactly 1 week, on Tuesday, Sept 7th at Noon PST. Find out how to get the pattern and the list of materials after the jump!

I can’t get the PDF files to open. Is the problem at my end, or is it a problem with the files?

  2. Natalie Zee Drieu says:

The pattern works for me viewing in the browser. Try right-clicking to save the PDF to your desktop.

  3. Jennifer says:

This looks like fun. I recently found the addictive world of amigurumi and love it. I’ve been posting more about amigurumi on my quilting blog (jessinershome.blogspot.com) than I have about quilting.
I might do my panda in a different color. Maybe I’ll let my daughter pick it out.
I had trouble opening the PDF by just clicking the link too. I had to right-click and save to my desktop. It opened fine then.

Yay! I’m excited. I’ll be posting about it tomorrow on my blog. Now I guess I’ll need to get on flickr…

  5. Courtney says:

I love amigurumi AND pandas! I’m practically obligated to join. I usually post my artistic excursions at http://lumesire.livejournal.com
I didn’t have any trouble with the PDF, just clicked it and it downloaded just fine.

  6. Out2lunch says:

Ooo, this looks like fun. It’s been a while since I’ve done a crocheted plushie and I can’t wait to get my hooks out again. ^_^
I wonder if I have any doll eyes left in my teddy bear box…

  7. jatoha says:

I couldn’t get the pdf link to work either, but right-clicking and saving worked like a charm! :)
Can’t wait to try this, but I am kicking myself because I was JUST at the yarn store and I almost bought that Alpine wool, but I didn’t because I didn’t have a project in mind for it! :P

  8. craftymoi says:

Must make Fuzzy Panda! Maybe he can become friends with “Pandaval” seen here: http://xosonja.blogspot.com/2009/07/pandavals-big-adventure.html
    This will be fun!

  9. Sarah says:

I might join in on this one, but use different yarns than the wool ones. I’ve got some brushed acrylics that should work perfectly!

  10. greetingarts says:

…and now I have to join, and make two at the same time!

  11. Seraphina_de_Sangre says:

I love Tamie’s patterns, they’re the best. I love pandas too, I’m going to make tons of these :) My skill level is pretty high, I’ve made several of Tamie’s Ami, Beth Doherty’s, and tons of free patterns online.

  12. Yarrow says:

Is anyone else not seeing the diagram for the arm and leg joints?
    It says:
“Follow the Diagram below to start using your doll eyes as makeshift joints. Now your doll’s arms and legs can become more pose able.”
    But under that is only the stuffing directions and there’s no third page o_o;

  13. TheCraftyKitten says:

I love pandas & I love amigurumi! I’ll be using different yarn than what is called for and I’ll have to order a couple sets of eyes. I can’t wait to get started.

I have had minimal success with crochet before- however I have the internets and a strong will to succeed. Especially since I took those classes just so I could learn to make amigurumi!

  16. Kiki says:

I had to join! Tamie’s patterns are so adorable! I learned to crochet when I was little, but stopped for quite a while. I picked up my hooks after learning about amigurumi, and have been crocheting like crazy!

  20. Teri says:

My grandmother taught me how to crochet when I was a kid. I recently started crocheting again, especially after discovering amigurumi is not as hard as I thought it would be! Can’t wait!

  21. SonomaLass says:

Had trouble with the PDF File myself, but as someone mentioned above, if you right click and select save link, you can save it directly to your computer, and just open it from where you saved it at.
I’m so in on this! I’ve been looking for a cute project that i can do from bed rest. My first baby is due any day now, and I think that this guy would be a great stuffed animal for him. ^_^ Though, I think I’m going to do him in black and red. ^_^

  29. LBP says:

Hi, I’m Laura; I’ve been crocheting since I taught myself while in Japan (so about 7 years). This looks awfully cute and I need a break from knitting, so a quick little amigurumi is just the thing I need! Yaay! Now to dig through my stash and see what I can use without spending $$$$ at the store.

  30. Meara says:

    Hello All,
My name is Meara and I’m an intern at Craftzine.com…Looking forward to crocheting with you all and seeing all the different versions!
    Cheers,
    Meara

  31. V says:

My store didn’t have Alpine yarn and I don’t know what guage it is. I found Lion Brand Jiffy acrylic, it’s kind of fuzzy – do you think that would work?
I’ve been looking at amigurumi, but haven’t tried one yet. I love to crochet.

  32. Tamie Snow says:

I replied on Flickr, but I’ll reply here too…
The brushed technique might not be very effective on that yarn, but it will give you a faux-brushed look.
So follow the pattern, (though, now that I’m thinking about it, you might need to go down to a 5.5mm or a 5mm which may “shrink” the size of your doll slightly) but omit the brushing.

  33. Gretchen says:

I really don’t have the time but how can I pass this up! Panda is so cute! Can’t wait to get started!

  34. Jillian says:

I can’t wait to get started. I need to find a brush though, and head over to Flickr. I hope some people will be using some different colors, like me! I’ve been making ami for a while, but never using the brushed method, so I’m really looking forward to starting him.
6060.etsy.com is where I get ALL my safety eyes. I love 6060! They have a great variety, don’t break the bank, and will get to you in a few days (at least for me.)
    Check me out @ mochaxlight.blogspot.com :]

My name is Leslie and I’m looking forward to participating. I taught myself to crochet when I was a kid, even getting into doing a doily, but never quite finished it. 30 years later, I caved and taught myself knitting-more than the limited basic co and knit and purl I taught myself as a kid.
Returning to nedles arts hs revived my crochet interest, too! I’m looking forward to this CAL since will go beyond just crocheting a project together. I’m looking forward to learning all the new tips and techniques!
