Here’s an interesting contest: recycle discarded mattresses into useful products! Deadline has been extended to December 19:

The competition aims to encourage entrants to form groups capable of creating a consumer product, instructions detailing how to make the product, and a plan for production on a larger scale. Entrants must create designs that take into account the volume of mattress waste generated each year. Groups are encouraged to utilize local resources, including existing manufacturing facilities and other waste products.

    No.
$25 to enter, 1st place is only $1k, 2nd $500, and 3rd a baked good. They want to put an original idea into production; recycling methods often involve patents and it sounds like they are looking to sucker someone.
Dh works in recycling–quality & R&D. Going from product to product is usually not profitable enough to be competitive in any large scale production. It is usually more feasible to recycle the original product into useful parts and then market the recycled materials to other manufactures who can use them in a broader range of products. You can reuse 100% of the original product this way.
