DIY Yarn Sack Organizer

DIY Yarn Sack Organizer

I love this clever (nay, brilliant!) DIY yarn organizer, or yarn sack, made with an eyelet for the yarn hole. With a young child and dog in the house, this could save my bacon. I have a plastic one someone gave me years ago, but this makes so much more sense for travel, and is cute to boot!

What happens if you want to take the yarn out of the bag mid-project??

Alyson – I’m the person who made these bags & I have to admit that is something I never thought of. I’m not sure how often it would come up, but you are correct you can’t take the ball out while mid-project.

Well, it seems like you could technically take the ball out of the bag; it would just still be threaded through the eyelet of the bag. It doesn’t seem like it would be a problem, though. This would be great if you’re a knitter with kittens!

I think this is a great idea. Doesn’t it need to be lined with plastic or something slippery though? I work with fuzzy yarns and they would just cling to the fabric and refuse to roll… wouldn’t they?

Liz G, you could always use a quart-size freezer zip bag as a liner and thread the yarn out of a hole in it before threading it out the hole in the cloth bag. I use freezer bags all the time to protect my yarn (mostly from me and my drink!).

Yes, good call. I’m thinking of maybe doing it at the sewing-the-bag stage; I might use a piece of shower curtain or other thin vinyl as a sewn-in liner.

Is this bag lined? And are the directions to be found somewhere? Thank you.
