Jessy made an Instructable for using embroidery hoops to frame photographs. Since it involves piercing the photo, she scanned the originals and printed out new ones on photo paper.

    Why not use transfer paper and put the photo onto the embroidery fabric? Then maybe use some embroidery to highlight parts of the fabric on the dress?

    Instead of piercing the photo, one could embroider a triangular pocket in each corner, much like paper photo corners. You’d still want to avoid using an original, though b/c the fabric isn’t pH neutral and it’ll be exposed to light, etc.
