My daughter and I have a date to see The Hunger Games tonight, and I’m not gonna lie … we’re both nerding out over it bigtime. I’ve made matching freezer paper stenciled Mockingjay t-shirts for us, and we’re planning on getting there early to sit in line and talk about things like which of us is on Team Peeta or Gale, what we think a tracker jacker sting might feel like and how we wish we could have Cinna make clothes for us. I have to admit, the only thing better than reading these books has been sharing them with my daughter.
After last week’s Hunger Games craft roundup, I couldn’t help but continue to explore what things inspired by the books folks have made. I came across this magnificent wedding/Mockingjay dress that won a costume contest over on the fan site Mockingjay.net. It was created by Hunger Games fan, Jessica, and she submitted this description of the creation to the web site:

It was constructed using a vintage wedding dress base, to which I added a layer of fiery fabric to imitate the dress in flames, then black feather boas for the black feathers. I also added the sheer sleeves and veil piece as well. I’m not sure if it’s visible, but there are also faux pearls strung along the neckline.

If you’ve read the books, you now exactly what dress(es) and scene Jessica has recreated in this outfit, and you’re likely to be needing to take a moment to pick your jaw up off the ground. Fantastic work, Jessica!
