Looking for a good backyard buzz? Create new beehives conveniently located within mason jars with this ingenious tutorial by Instructables member Zevion.

If you live in a suburban area, you may think that starting a beehive cannot be done. However a common suburban backyard can be a perfect place for beehives if done correctly and you do a bit of research and planning before ordering your bees and supplies. It is actually a very simple and easy process with the right tools.

btw, the bees actually work better in the dark than in the light, so…..consider that when building this hive setup

You keep linking to instructions in Spanish. Where are the instructions in English?

I guess they took them down for some reason, the English instructions existed when I wrote this post back in June.

Make Volume 25 has a html linked page with all the instructions…oh, and in English.

  6. Travis Uruh Spalding Braxton says:

from what i understand the sun isnt good for the hive. this also ruins their ability to regulate temperature within the hive. kitsch over quality.

  7. jonah says:

Regarding the sun exposure comments, common sense suggests that there would be a box frame and lid that goes over the jars, or the sun would damage the honey, the wax, irritate the bees and the hive would fill with water the first time it rained, ending the experiment.
